We then made the climb and descent into Newton and there we joined the road to Thiplow and Fowlmere. After Fowlmere we turned past the RSPB reserve and for the first time into the wind and this was seriously hard work, and this was soon followed by the road in the same direction into Melbourn. This was clearly not to everyone's taste and progress was extremely slow. After Melbourn we turned through Meldreth before finding road to Malton and the Golf Club.
HarstonThis was a welcome sanctuary, the more so because of the warm, friendly welcome we always receive there. The coffee and cake were most welcome, but after much deliberation it was most people's opinion that the ride should be abandoned as there would be little pleasure riding in those conditions. Consequently, most decided to go home by various routes and nobody went to the lunch stop at Hinxworth. Edward Elmer
